Ask for more than ‘Chaotianmen’
Ask for the exact pier number, a map pin, the Chinese address and a contact number. Show the final notice to your driver. Being at the waterfront is not the same as being at the correct gangway.
Published boarding guidance notes that water conditions can move embarkation to another port, including Fuling or Fengdu. If this happens, follow the operator’s arranged transfer instructions rather than travelling independently to the old pier.
Build in a night before sailing
Arriving the previous day gives you time to resolve a delayed flight or train and enjoy Chongqing before boarding. A hotel that looks close on a flat map can still involve slopes, steps and indirect walking routes.
Chaotianmen metro station serves the waterfront area, but the final walk depends on your pier and luggage. Request a suitable transfer if stairs, slopes or carrying bags are difficult.
Keep documents and essential luggage accessible
Keep your passport, confirmation, medication and the operator’s contact details in your hand luggage. Check the baggage arrangements in advance if you need help from the road to the gangway.
Do not assume early cabin access or luggage storage is available. Confirm these directly if you intend to leave bags before the stated boarding window.
Reconfirm close to departure
Check the boarding notice again before leaving your hotel. Confirm the ship name, date, pier, boarding deadline and any meeting point for a shuttle. Boarding time and departure time are not interchangeable.
Keep the seller reachable if the location differs from your voucher. Do not follow instructions for a different ship simply because its name or operator looks similar.
